Psychologist in Oradea – Psychological and Vocational Counselling for Students | Academic Motivation and Career Guidance

An insight into the experiences of those who have used the University of Oradea’s Counselling and Career Services Centre, and into how psychological support can help students rediscover their motivation, emotional balance and career direction.

University life is often associated with the excitement of new beginnings and numerous opportunities for personal and professional development. Beyond this, however, many students face challenges that are not always apparent: academic anxiety, a lack of motivation, difficulties adapting, pressure to perform, uncertainty about their professional future, or the feeling that they have to cope with all these challenges on their own.

My experiences during my placement at the University of Oradea’s Counselling and Career Services Centre gave me the opportunity to gain a closer insight into these realities and reaffirmed to me just how important it is to provide psychological support at the right time.

During this period, I had the privilege of taking part in various activities dedicated to the development and support of students:

  • individual psychological counselling;

  • educational and vocational counselling;

  • career guidance and development;

  • psychological assessment;

  • workshops on mental health, motivation and managing academic stress;

  • activities to prevent students from dropping out of university and to support students going through difficult times.

Perhaps one of the most important things I have learnt from this experience is that academic difficulties are rarely purely academic.

Sometimes, emotional exhaustion lies behind a lack of motivation. Performance anxiety may be hidden behind procrastination. Behind giving up on a goal there may lie a fear of failure, and behind perfectionism there may be overwhelming internal pressure.

Students don’t just need answers to the question ‘Which career is right for me?’, but also a safe space where they can say ‘I no longer feel good enough’, ‘I’ve lost my motivation to study’ or ‘I don’t know if I’m on the right path’.

I firmly believe that the role of psychological and career counselling is to help people discover their personal resources and build a healthier relationship both with their performance and with themselves. Self-awareness, psychological resilience and genuine motivation develop over time and are worth nurturing with the same care we invest in our professional development.

Through the activities I’ve carried out with students, I’ve had the opportunity to see just how valuable some seemingly simple things can be: being listened to without being judged, receiving support when you feel stuck, and realising that you don’t have to go through difficult times on your own.

I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to contribute, even in a small way, to this process of the students’ growth and development, and for all the lessons this experience has taught me.

I would like to thank Ms Adriana Borza for the trust she has placed in me and for the dedication with which she works, day in, day out, to create a space where students and volunteers are encouraged to grow, learn and discover their potential.

Experiences such as this reaffirm to me that psychology is about more than just techniques and interventions. It is about people, genuine connection and offering support precisely when it can make the greatest difference.
